Day 104 – 2014-08-31, Sunday – Boise, ID

Ride day, again! Woohoo!

First, though, we have to run some errands. We decided to ride in the afternoon, as it is cool today, and maybe we’ll have a better chance of finding a parking spot … here’s hoping that’s right!

Been a long week, and we’re tired, so after our errands, The Bear took a nap, and I tried to do some stuff online. Why, oh WHY does EVERY SINGLE KOA (except the one in Salt Lake City) have CRAPPY WiFi? One minute, you’re cruising along just fine, then BAM! – “you’re no longer connected to the internet”. Then a few minutes later, you’re up again, but WAIT! 1 minute after THAT – NOTHING … AGAIN! AAAARGHH!!!  Sorry, had to get that out of my system. (no pun intended!)

Aaaanyway … so the afternoon went long, and we, who were supposed to START the ride at 17:00, did not leave until a few minutes AFTER 18:00. Well, we should get there by 18:30, and that gives us almost two hours of riding time before dark. Let’s DO IT!!!

Back to Hulls Gulch Reserve, and today there’s plenty of parking, so we get set up and head on out. I want to do the ride we did last year, but The Bear does not – there’s a huge uphill she does not want to do, and a HUGER downhill that she also does not want to do, and frankly, neither do I. It’s the one where I burned up my rear brake last year, it’s so steep, and I do not relish doing that again, so we’ll go to the top of that hill and return.

Well, somehow, I zigged when I should have zagged, and we ended up doing a not-too-horribly hard ride that took us to … the bottom of the big hill! Wow! I get to do the return on Lower Hulls Gulch that I wanted to do! The ride up was probably an hour, but the return is a mere fifteen minutes! Yeah, it’s a little shorter than the out, but WOW, what a lot of fun! Very flowy, left-right-left swoops, slight ups and downs, but all downhill, so almost no pedaling at all! SWEET! THIS is mountain biking!

We’re done well before dark, hit a grocery store on the way home, and make dinner. GREAT ride, which makes it a GREAT day! Sadly, no photos, but go look at last year’s – it hasn’t changed!
